“HERRY DIE STRANDLOPER”

(?1625 – 1663)

Herry die Strandloper (“Autshumato”) was ‘n bekende gesig aan die Kaap de Goede Hoop tydens die middel 1600’s en was hy menig male ‘n gas aan die tafel van Jan van Riebeeck.

Volgens oorlewering is “Herry’s Beach Bar & Chill Lounge” nog voor Van Riebeeck se aankoms gestig as kuierplek vir die plaaslike bevolking asook seevaarders wat om die Kaap gevaar het.

Historici is nie seker presies wanneer “Herry’s” vir die eerste keer sy deure geopen het nie, maar stem hulle ooreen dat dit die mees populêre taphuis was suid van die Liesbeekrivier.

Met ‘n  spyskaart wat gespog het met slegs die beste plaaslike geregte & drankies, ‘n pragtige uitsig oor Tafelbaai met die sand onder jou voete, asook musiek deur “Die Standlopers”, was dit vanselfsprekend dat “Herry’s” bygedra het tot die ‘Hoop’ in Goede Hoop!
